VIEQUES
Spanish Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico
Warm lights. Quiet streets. Wild horses walking straight through town.
Some travel moments are memorable because we go looking for them.
Others simply walk into our path.
During our time in Vieques, we had already seen horses around the island.
But seeing horses in the countryside was one thing.
Seeing them casually wander into the places where people were eating, driving, talking and going about an ordinary evening was something completely different.
As night settled over town, the streets glowed under warm lights.
People were out enjoying the evening.
Cars moved through the roads.
Restaurants and local businesses were still active.
And then the horses appeared.
They did not seem out of place.
They simply walked through town as though the streets belonged to them too.
That was what made the scene so memorable.
There was no dramatic chase and no carefully planned wildlife encounter.
It was the contrast that stayed with us — horses moving freely through a human space, completely at ease among the lights, cars and everyday rhythm of island life.
For a few minutes, the boundary between town and nature seemed to disappear.
That became our MOMENT.

Horses of Vieques
WHEN THE HORSES CAME TO TOWN
Seeing horses around Vieques had already become part of the island experience.
But this was different.
The setting was not an empty road or a distant field.
It was town.
Lights were on.
People were out.
Cars were moving through the streets.
And right in the middle of all of it, the horses simply appeared.
They walked past as naturally as if they had always been part of the evening routine.
That contrast was what caught our attention.
Something that would have seemed unusual almost anywhere else felt strangely normal in Vieques.
For us, it was exactly the opposite.
It felt completely unexpected.
And sometimes that difference between what is ordinary to a place and extraordinary to a visitor is what makes a travel memory stay with you.
FROM MEMORY TO ART
MOMENT No. 005 reimagines that Vieques evening as a vintage-inspired travel poster.
The artwork uses the warm glow of the nighttime streets to establish the human side of the scene — lights, buildings and the quiet rhythm of a small island town.
Against that setting, the horses become the visual focus.
They are not shown far away in an open landscape.
They move directly through the same space as the people around them.
That relationship is the heart of the memory.
At the center is the moment we remembered most:
free-roaming horses walking naturally through town under the warm lights of a Vieques evening.
The artwork heightens the contrast between the horses and the nighttime street while keeping the scene calm rather than dramatic.
It isn't meant to reproduce a photograph exactly.
It is meant to preserve how the moment felt.
The journey gave us Vieques.
The moment gave us the story.
