Lavender fields. A tiny visitor. One unexpected encounter we never forgot.
Some travel memories are defined by a landscape.
Others begin with something much smaller.
During our time in Maui, we visited a lavender farm in Upcountry, away from the beaches and resort areas that many people immediately associate with the island.
The atmosphere felt completely different.
The landscape was quieter, greener and cooler, with lavender, open countryside and the relaxed character of Upcountry Maui all around us.
Then our attention shifted to something we had not expected to become part of the day.
A Jackson’s chameleon.
For a brief moment, the chameleon rested on an arm, close enough for us to see every detail — its textured skin, curled tail, distinctive horns and constantly moving eyes.
Suddenly, the landscape was no longer the only thing we were photographing.
The chameleon became the center of attention.
It was one of those encounters that was completely unplanned, but somehow became more memorable than many of the things we had expected to see.
A quiet afternoon in Maui had given us an unexpected visitor.
That became our MOMENT.

AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR
Most people arrive in Maui thinking about beaches, ocean views and tropical landscapes.
But some of the memories that stay with us come from the things we never planned to find.
The chameleon was one of those moments.
It was small compared with the landscape around us, yet for those few minutes it completely changed what we were looking at.
Instead of photographing the farm or the distant scenery, everyone’s attention moved toward this tiny visitor.
Up close, every detail became fascinating.
The horns.
The curled tail.
The textured skin.
The eyes that seemed to look in different directions at once.
The encounter lasted only a short time.
But that was enough.
Sometimes the smallest part of a journey becomes the part you remember most.
FROM MEMORY TO ART
MOMENT No. 004 reimagines that unexpected Maui encounter as a vintage-inspired travel poster.
The lavender fields and Upcountry landscape establish the place, while the warm colors reflect the relaxed atmosphere of Maui.
But the chameleon is deliberately given a much stronger presence in the artwork.
In reality, it was a small animal resting on an arm.
In the artwork, it becomes the visual center of the memory — enlarged just enough to capture how important that brief encounter became in our recollection of the day.
At the center is the moment we remembered most:
a Jackson’s chameleon resting calmly on an arm in the middle of Upcountry Maui.
The artwork brings together the place and the encounter into one image.
It isn't meant to reproduce a photograph exactly.
It is meant to preserve how the moment felt.
The journey gave us Maui.
The moment gave us the story.
